alzeihmer society

I spoke at the Asia Digital Media and Entertainment Forum last week and took notes on several interesting tidbits.

Taiwan Public Television Network gave an interesting presentation and discussed High Definition TV. The interesting number for readers of our blog - 60 of Taiwanese HD TV viewers never view ads (ie they skip ads). 30 view ads sometimes and only 10 view TV ads regularly.

MediaCorp Singapore gave a great presentation about digital radio, and of services that go "beyond radio". A good example was using the DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) technology to update digital "e-billboards" that we see a lot here in Asia. The idea is, that you don't need any physical cable connection to the billboards, yet they can be updated remotely, simultaneously, and in real time. An interesting angle to DAB that I had never thought of. Also the idea of updating car mapping info - where are the roadblocks and traffic congestion etc. Yes, that can be done on cellular networks ie 3G data, but that means each car mapping service will consume some telecoms traffic bandwidth every time there is an update. DAB (and other broadcast digital technologies like DVB-H, DMB etc) can be used for this in a far more efficient way. Interesting..

China Netcom was at the Forum and spoke of digital convergence. One of the points they made was that also in China (as we've recently seen in many other countries) today SMS text messaging is the most used service on mobile phones - ie no longer voice calls.

As to me? I spoke of the Seven Mass Media and gave examples where legacy media are gaining new abilities through digital platforms and through convergence; and then discussed the sixth mass media channel - internet - and the seventh - mobile - and how they are now innovating in the media space. The event was very interesting.

Salutations haha :)
okey dokey so yesterday, i went over to my friendapos;s house for a bonfire. letapos;s call her beatrice. the bonfire was loads of fun except for two things. First of all near the end of the bonfire, this creepy man who is one of beatriceapos;s friends came over. heapos;s in college and it was mad scary because it was pitch black and this male figure just started walking toward us. as beatrice later pointed out, (due to his creepy hat) this man looked like the guy from prom night. The one that kills everyone and pries on innocent girls. Right so before this guy came over, another not so great incident happened. and that is that i kind of like this guy that iapos;ve never really talked to before (donapos;t judge me) and it was his 17th birthday last night (i think) and so i called one of his friends thatapos;s one of my friends (confusing?) to tell him happy birthday but when i did it, i tried to be funny and sing that one song that goes like "i hear its your birthday da na na na na na well its my birthday too" or something like that. But he didnapos;t get it maybe thatapos;s because he doesnapos;t know me or he doesnapos;t know the song. And the solution to that problem is for him to get to know me AND to learn the song right?
i mean its a classic for goodnessapos; sake. hmm i also would like to comment on the success of the red sox last night in tampa bay and to let you know that iapos;m smirking at all the haters that thought it was going to end. That thought the red sox were going to go down without a fight. Well you were wrong. Lol (shout out to my italian stallion you know who you are) oh and also michigan, your upsetting me this year. I thought after carr left we would have a new beginning, a new season. One where we actually win games but no. 46-17 loss against penn state. thatapos;s disappointing and its like your stabbing me in the heart. My blue blue heart. Really.
thatapos;s enough for today. Go red sox

lots of love

city in kansas planner wedding

Well, things have just been, weird lately. I always feel like Iapos;m walking around on eggshells with everyone. I dunno, noone really talks anymore. The people Icare about are kind of, done with me. Whatever. I guess Ishould focus more on school. Whenever Iapos;m upset about things everyone just yells at me anyways.

And thereapos;s this one person, who lately Idonapos;t even know what to do about. We used to have so much fun together but now theyapos;re just wrapped in with new and better things and they just are becoming different. Like, they donapos;t care anymore about those times. But then sometimes, for slip seconds, Ifeel like theyapos;re that person again, and then itapos;s just like bam, back to reality. Iasked them to let me know if they saw I was falling, and to helpme, and right nowIdonapos;tfeel right, and Iapos;m sort of lost. But what do blogs do anyways.I just miss him.

But, Iapos;m sorry. Iapos;m sorry Iapos;m upset.

Iapos;m frustrated.

My sister is having her Going away to Boston/ 24th Birthday party right now...

After my 8 hour OPENING shift and coming home and cleaning, I conked out after I showered... Only to be awoken about 40 minutes later demanding that I go get the Beer, Pizza and Propane tank switched out.

Freakinapos; Errand Girl.

I donapos;t know how Tom Brady handles it.

But, the moral of the story, I have never bought alcohol before. I have never switched out propane tanks. I drove around town looking for the tank since every place I went said to "come back tomorrow". Nice. Then I go get the beer listed by my sister on a post- it to arrive home and find out that I am missing a six pack, and that even then, it wasnapos;t enough so I had to drive back down to get some and go to another store with my mom so it didnapos;t look strange that we were picking up the "left" beer with purchasing more...

SO frustrated. Iapos;m cranky and just want to sleep, but alas, I am SO awake now and will be reading Twilight in a few minutes.

Good night.

I bought a new to me car. It runs very well. I like it, and it likes me. I have named it Owyn. Iapos;m going to bed now, because grandma has stayed up way past her bed time.

A Parent Talks to A Child Before the First Game

This is your first game, my child. I hope you win.
I hope you win for your sake, not mine.
Because winning is nice.
Itapos;s a good feeling.
Like the whole world is yours.
But it passes, this feeling.
And what lasts is what youapos;ve learned.
Thatapos;s what sports is all about. Life.
The whole thing is played out in an afternoon.
The happiness of life.
The miseries. The joys. The heartbreaks.
Thereapos;s not telling how youapos;ll do.
You might be a hero or you might be absolutely nothing.
Thereapos;s just no telling.
Too much depends on chance.
On how the ball bounces.
Iapos;m not talking about the game, my child.
Iapos;m talking about life. But itapos;s life that the game is all about.
Just as I said. Because every game is life.
And life is a game. A serious game. Dead serious.
But thatapos;s what you do with serious things.
You do your best. You take what comes. And you run with it.
Winning is fun. Sure. But winning is not the point.
Not giving up is the point.
Never being satisfied with what youapos;ve done is the point.
Never letting up is the point.
Never letting anyone down is the point.
Play to win. Sure. But lose like a champion.
Because itapos;s not winning that counts.

okay that was last digression of the day. Yay my mum has finished cooking lunch ishall eat now

Residents of Fishwick Estate in Preston could have been forgiven for thinking they were on a film set the other Sunday. Super heroes and Starwars characters appeared around every corner.

But it wasn't the middle of the latest sci-fi adventure - it was a local group of youngsters doing their bit for MWH Mersey Basin Week by cleaning up the estate. Lead by Zul Hussain, Fishwick Rangers turned out in brilliant fancy-dress costumes to free the streets of litter.

With all those super heroes around the litter should be banished for a long time

Well done Fishwick Rangers for showing that improving the environment can be fun.
